The stars have aligned, and I'm full of ideas. Things to invent, things to write about, and oops (!) things that I want to buy. I'm doing so well with my budget that I don't want to go all crazy making purchases on Amazon.com, even if the shipping is free.
So, here's what I am doing instead of buying. This is an idea I had from when I was teaching, and my students would ALL want to raise their hands and contribute and share an idea during a twenty minute lecture. I'd tell them to write it down and pass the idea up to me. This way, they got to express the idea, I could give them a personal comment later, and everyone was happy.
I've started a list called "Things I Almost Bought Today but Didn't." This list has become a source of personal pride for me. You see, I do have a personal spending budget, but I'm tapped out for January, and I don't know how many of the "things I want to buy right now" are things I would really use or things I need.
Here's what's on my list so far this week:
A food dehydrator, best price is Amazon, $33, qualifies for free super saver shipping
A non-stick spatula (as in, the food won't stick to the spatula, not that it's safe for your non stick pan), best price Amazon, $6.74
A divided frying pan (so you can cook two things at once and only clean one pan), best price, Amazon, $39.99
A travel coffee mug that actually keeps my coffee HOT (haven't found one yet)
A desk coffee mug that actually keeps my coffee HOT (found one at Target for about $20...)
A new pair of black heels (scheduled for purchase out of February's personal fund, plus I have a $10 off coupon for DSW.)
Hair powder (to give my hair more volume, recommended by my stylist, $15 at Ulta)
The book: "Life Without Bread."
And the book "One For the Money" ($8.99 on Kindle)
Yes, it's only Tuesday. Who knows what else will show up on this list by February 1? And who knows how many of those items will actually be purchased? We'll see....
