I finally did it. I ordered myself an exercise bike. Not just any exercise bike....but the FitDesk, a bike that will allow me to browse the internet while stacking up miles of exercise instead of logging in daily number of hours added to the wear and tear of my IKEA loveseat.
A funny thing happens when you tell people that you've ordered an exercise bike. Instead of people saying, "wow, that's so awesome!"...many people say "you'll never use it for anything but a clothes hanger," and "where are you going to put that thing?'
I did own an exercise many years ago. It was in a time period that I don't really talk about much, which was my short stint in the Evergreen, Colorado area. My then ex claimed that he got a hand injury when the clerk from a big box store "shoved" the box into the back of my old CRV, jeopardizing his HUGE career as a producer of music trailers for movies. Although I don't know if the hand injury was real or not, I did LIKE having an exercise bike (there was no way for me to get to a gym from the isolated mountaintop where we lived anyway...)
One of the reasons I decided to get an exercise bike now is that I need it. I need the stress relief that exercise provides, and I won't go outside when it's cold and dark. Also, even though there's now a gym just around the corner from my house, I don't always feel like getting gym ready to go. Add in the fact that three ex-boyfriends attend that gym, and you've got a pretty good recipe for gym avoidance.
My bike is scheduled to arrive between today and Thursday. I'm HOPING it's today because I'm ready to start proving all the critics wrong. I'm going to blog the use of my exercise bike. I mean, if people can photograph every recipe they make and my boyfriend can text me every meal he eats, then why not journey my miles?
I promise that I'll take a photo the moment a dress or pair of dress pants lands on my bike. (I usually throw those things on my chair upstairs, which means my chair is more likely to become a big hanger...but I digress.)
Send me good thoughts that there's a decent size package from Amazon on my doorstep tonight...
Rachel
